Genetic variations result in animals developing features specific to the habitat in which they exist. A habitat is the natural environment in which different species live.

Dromedary camel
This single-humped camel lives in arid or semi-arid habitats, defined by:
- high temperatures
- low rainfall
- limited vegetation

Long eyelashes protect eyes from blowing sand

Hump stores fat to last a long time without food and regulate temperature

Long legs to keep body away from hot sand

Polar bear
This polar bear lives arctic habitats, defined by:
- consistently very low temperatures
- little sunlight during winter
- ground that is permanently frozen

Blubber to keep warm and to float in arctic seas

White fur to blend into snow and creep up on prey

Black skin absorbs heat to keep warm, and reflects UV rays to prevent burning
