Atoms and Particles

Atoms are the smallest unit of any element, and an element is any substance that is made of only one type of atom. Gold, sodium, chlorine, and helium are all examples of elements. When more than one element bonds together, it creates a compound, such as sodium chloride. Particles are the smallest part of any substance, whether it is an atom of an element or a molecule of a compound.
