Inheritance
All organisms have genes which are passed on from parent to offspring. Humans have around 23,000 genes which code for everything from eye colour to personality traits to the probability of developing a certain disease. So many genes mean there are so many possibilities to be human in so many different ways! This variation has allowed humans to colonise almost every ecosystem on Earth, and may enable us to someday colonise space. We have to make sure we preserve and respect diversity, as it is the key to our species’ long-term survival.
