Cells

If atoms are the building blocks of substances, cells are the building blocks of life. Microscopic bags of chemicals are responsible for all the processes required by living organisms, from releasing energy and growing to moving and reproducing. Most plant and animal cells share similar structures, but specialisations make each type of cell function in different ways within an organism.
